Google’s Motion Stills app on Android gets an AR face-lift

Get ready to experience AR!

The big Tech Giant Google is upgrading its Motions Stills video/gif editing app with Augmented Reality. You heard it right, it will bring cool AR stickers to a long list of Android phones.

Main features will be to record gifs and videos inside the app, as well as AR surface tracking, pinning 3D models ranging from animals to robots onto any surface near you. This will be available for devices without requiring ARCore support, as long as the phone is running Android 5.1 and up that is.

“AR mode is powered by instant motion tracking, a six degree of freedom tracking system built upon the technology that powers Motion Text in Motion Stills iOS and the privacy blur on YouTube to accurately track static and moving objects,”

Google engineers Jianing Wei and Tyler Mullen wrote in a blog post.

“We refined and enhanced this technology to enable fun AR experiences that can run on any Android device with a gyroscope.”
